Guy-America Furniture Limited is a Guyanese owned business established in 1979 by Mr. Mohamed Alli. The sole proprietor has over 40 years’ experience in general business and over 30 years in logging, sawmilling, furniture manufacturing and merchandising.
Mr. Alli started his business, Guy-America as a hardware and grocery store at Zeeburg, West Coast Demerara. As business started to become more challenging in Guyana, Mr. Alli’s entrepreneurial background led him to the United Stated of America in the 1980’s where he embarked on diversified business ventures. These business opportunities included opening a restaurant, laundromat, and a used car lot. After a few years in operation, he subsequently sold these businesses.
With his first Guyanese store still in operation, Mr. Alli returned home to Guyana and expanded his local business after he bought his first sawmill. This new business venture was a new one to him and after a year of successfully operating the sawmill, Guy-America acquired a forest concession and commenced its own logging operations.
Opportunities for further diversification evolved and Guy-America started manufacturing high-end, customized furniture, which is the Company’s predominant business today. The success and positive response from consumers of the local market led Guy-America to expand by opening a furniture store in the capital city of Georgetown.
Over time, the Company began exporting lumber and furniture regionally and internationally, becoming renowned for quality products and exceptional service.
